Audrey Rubin is a recognized leader in legal operations, business strategy and organizational development. With a career spanning roles as General Counsel, COO, law firm partner and professor, she brings a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing today’s legal and business landscapes. She also serves as Builden’s COO.
Audrey advises law firms on maximizing profitability, driving operational excellence and enhancing diversity and inclusion. She coaches current and rising Chief Legal Officers on leadership, communication, and strategic growth. In her advisory role at BarkerGilmore, she works closely with clients to develop high-performance teams and enhance legal department value. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law, teaching the Business of Law.
Audrey’s career includes serving as Vice President and COO of the Global Law and Compliance Department at Aon Corporation, where she was instrumental in streamlining operations, improving business processes and fostering talent development. Under her leadership, Aon’s legal department earned the ACC Value Challenge Award and received multiple accolades for its pro bono contributions and business process innovations. Prior to that, she served as General Counsel for Orbitz, Grant Thornton and Apollo Travel Services, and she held leadership roles in several global companies.
A frequent author and speaker, Audrey shares her insights on legal operations and business acumen for lawyers at major conferences and in publications including Inside Counsel and Crain’s Chicago Business. She is the recipient of several honors, including the Women of Achievement Award from the Anti-Defamation League and the Early Adopter Award from Illinois Legal Aid Online.
Audrey has previously chaired the Illinois Task Force on Gender Bias in the Courts and contributed to the American Bar Association’s Presidential Task Force on Women in the Profession, and has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including Metropolitan Family Services and the Yale Alumni Association.
Audrey earned a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University.
She lives in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
